North of Mana Bridge

by Mike Loomis
June 11, 2010

We spent almost all day Thursday in camp, as very heavy rains in the afternoon and evening limited our activity. We are all in tents, of course, but we managed to get our equipment set up and trenched well so we are staying relatively dry.

We got out today at 0700 and started searching for fresh sign in an area south of our camp. We found some tracks that are between 24 and 48 hours old. We followed them for awhile but did not encounter any elephants.

There was a team in this region just a week ago; they saw elephants at that time. However, there's not much evidence of recent activity. We also spoke to some local farmers who told us that they haven't seen any elephants for about seven days. With that in mind, we will begin moving north from our current search site.
