Gunshots

by Mike Loomis
June 22, 2010

Another frustrating day. We hiked into an area where our scouts felt we had a good chance of finding elephants. Just as we were entering the area, we heard several gunshots. As near as we can tell, the shooters were not hunting elephants so at least that's a relief. Of course, the gunshots would have scared any elephants away, so we never really got a chance to explore the area at all.

We ended up hiking back to the spot we explored yesterday. Once again, we didn't see anything to make us think there had been elephants there recently, so we decided to hike back to the village. We'll work on Wednesday's strategy and hopefully get back out to the field early tomorrow.
