Leaving Korup

by Mike Loomis
June 30, 2010

It's been a hard last three days. We have come across several sets of elephant sign here in Korup, but each one has been four to six hours old, which makes it very hard for us to catch up. The rain has stayed away for three days, which has been nice. We are also staying in an abandoned village instead of camping in our tents. There are two houses in this village, so we just set up our gear inside those houses and have managed to escape the elements for awhile.

We still have about three hours in the field left today. No matter what happens the rest of the day, we'll be leaving Korup and heading for Limbe on Thursday. At that point, we'll decide how the rest of this summer's project will progress. This has been a very frustrating trip, as I hate to not see elephants while we're out in the field. But there's still a chance that we'll have some success yet this summer.
