Family Emergency Calls Dr. Loomis Home

by Mike Loomis
July 9, 2010

While working in the northern part of Korup National Park on 28 June 2010, I received word, via satellite telephone, of a family emergency back in the United States. Due to our remote location and to a prearranged rendezvous with our pirogue paddler and driver, I was not able to immediately leave Cameroon.

I managed to get to Limbe late at night on 1 July and changed my flight reservations to return to North Carolina with Sathya on 3 July. I arrived back in North Carolina in the evening of 4 July.

We were not able to complete our work in Korup National Park. We also were not able to begin work in a fourth study site, the Ngoila-Mintom Conservation Management Zone. We hope to continue our work in these study sites in the near future.
